Wickham's Character
George Wickham is a handsome militia officer who attracts every women he comes across. Elizabeth is no exception. She is attracted to his wonderful charm and beautiful features. Wickham and Mr. Darcy do not get along quite well with each other. They tell stories about one another in front of Elizabeth so that she may like one over the other. Yet Wickham seems to be the bigger favorite to Elizabeth. Darcy's first impression on Elizabeth causes her to strongly dislike him, but when she meets Wickham, she becomes fond of him instantly. For he is gentleman-like, charming, an officer, and not to mention hansome!

QUOTES: Quote 1: "Mr. Wickham was the happy man towards whom almost every female eye was turned..."(Page 66)

Quote 2: "Mr. Wickham has deserved much less attention from Mr. Darcy than he has recieved...Mr. Wickham is by no means a repectable young man."(Page 84)

Quote 1 explanation: Wickham's outwards appearance is as described above, charming, confident, good looking, etc. He is used to being the center of attention and can win the favor of people after meeting them. Being a militiaman makes him appear to be all the more respectable, however he has a darker side to him. In reality, he is a deciever and is extremely persuasive because he is a great conversationalist. Wickham hides his bad intentions all too well, his appearance is most certainly not his reality.

Quote 2 explanation: Few people know the ugly truth about Wickham, and to publicize it is difficult. Wickham is a master of his own disguise, people are entranced by his personality and sincerely think he is a genuine man. He is getting attention from others when he is not entitled to it, and he highers himself socially by making others, such as Darcy, appear to be the bad people. If his true identity were to be revealed, it is believed that he would not be up on his pedestal any longer.

The White Witch (From the Chronicles of Narnia)

How is she like Mr. Wickham?
GOOD LOOKS: The White Witch of Narnia has features that stand out and would get anyone's attention. She is beautiful with her snow white skin and hair, downed with beautiful clothing. Just like the queen, Wickham is easy-on-the-eyes, and dresses himself elegantly.
"At present I am not in love with Mr. Wickham; no, I certainly am not. But he is, beyond all comparison, the most agreeable man i ever saw"(Page 124)

CHARM: When Edmund, the 3rd child of four who live with an old professor, travels into the world of Narnia, he comes upon the White Witch of Narnia. She greets him with charm and elegance, assuring him that there will be no harm to him. She helps him get warm with her lavish coat, and she provides goodies to him. While speaking, she is very pleasant and nice, just like Wickham is to all he meets, especially to the lovely Elizabeth.
"Here are officers enough at Meryton to disappoint all the young ladies in the country. Let Wickham be your man. He is a pleasant fellow, and would jilt you creditably."(Page 119)

EVIL WAYS: Though the White Witch of Narnia is at first a lovely person to Edmund, she uses him for her own gain. She makes Edmund a bate so that she will later capture the three other children who, in Narnia, are destined to bring back Aslan and destroy the White Witch of Narnia, bringing summer back to the land. Her charm was a decoy into getting what she wanted, just like Wickham. He attempted to elope with Darcy's sister by seducing her with his charm and good looks. For he and the White Witch have no good morals.
"But when this subject was succeeded by his account of Mr. Wickham, when she read with somewhat clearer attention, a relation of events, which, if true, must overthrow every cherished opinion of his worth, and which bore so alarmingly an affinity to his own history of himself, her feelings were yet more acutely painful and difficult of definition"(Page 173)
